I preordered, but which jacket?!
I went into my local bookstore and my copy is preordered (and paid for as I reckon it’ll be chaos on the Saturday of release!) The store assistant asked me which cover I wanted (the UK has two), and I wondered, which cover are you going for if you have a choice - or which would you go for?
I picked the children’s one to go with the rest of my set. Here’s the adult one. I actually prefer the adult one this time but I just have to have a matching set!

Hmm. No one asked when I preordered and prepaid. But then, I was just so happy that they’d finally figured out–six books into a seven-book series–that prepayment might make the delivery night go more smoothly.
I’ve been buying on the day (not midnight release) for the last three books, and I have never needed to preorder. I’m sort of inclined to do the preordering online this year though. I don’t own any of the adult cover books, but I really like some of them too. As a Canadian, I have the same cover as the British version. The French versions here are different from the American or the British too.
I could very easily be wrong, but I think that here in the states we only have 1 cover: the one I made the header image for this RAL from.
I like the British adult cover better!
The US does only do one cover. I think it’s funny that the UK does an adult and a children’s cover. Is it because people are ashamed of being caught reading them?
We get the UK kids cover.
I think I am going to be having to place an order with Amazon UK. I like the adult cover much better. The US only offers the children’s version. I guess the publisher think that adults don’t read Harry Potter.
I got the UK kids cover, because that’s what all the rest of mine are. I personally find the adult ones quite boring, but I do plan on getting a set of the US covers one day… when I’m rich
I have pre-ordered but no idea which cover - I must go back to the website and have a look at it again
Here in NZ it will be a UK version though, whatever cover we end up with.
Kim - I think you’re right! Some people think an ‘adult’ cover makes it more ‘literary’ *sigh* Book 3 was up for the overall Whitbread book prize (and should have won - it really is superb) but lost out to a poetry book because the judges couldn’t bring themselves to vote for a children’s book!
They introduced them for book 4 or 5 (not sure which) once HP became ‘in’. I bet I see dozens of people on the train with the kiddies cover though. Proper fans aren’t ashamed to be seen with a children’s cover LOL!
when i ordered my copy at the bookstore months ago they asked kids or adult and i went with kids as i like them better and my set is all in the uk kids design.
