Fandom
Here’s a question for you all: Are or have you been involved with the Harry Potter fandom? By which I mean, have you actively participated in fanish activities such as reading fanfiction, writing fanfiction, posting in Harry Potter forums, belonging to a (relation)ship, etc. Or has Harry Potter fandom been an aspect of online life you haven’t really been involved in?
Just curious because I use to be in the fandom, post on boards, read, wrote and betad fanfiction, and being in any fandom can make you question and regard the books differently.
I have. I read fanfiction(some is really, really good) and I’ve written a couple for myself but never published them. I also post in some Harry Potter forums; you can get into some great book discussions on them.
I also love exploring around JKR’s site and the HPLexicon.
I’m a fan in that I get the books and read them, watch the movies when I can, enjoy the Stephen Fry readings of them, introduced my kids to the stories, and do some related knitting (always practical stuff as with limited time it needsto be used as well as be fun). I don’t go to offline events though. No time, and other ways to use up what time I do have.
I listen to lots of HP podcasts, and sometimes visit discussion boards but rarely post. I’m also in love with Wizard Rock (Harry and the Potters, Draco and the Malfoys, The Whomping Willows, etc). I’m hoping to go to Prophecy, the big HP conference, in August
Oh Kim’s note reminded me - I have done some online stuff like growing (erm killing) a mandrake and some more serious book discussions in forums, just not recently.

I love the books and moveies, but I am *so* out of the loop. ROTFL I didn’t even know this other stuff existed. LOL
I’m out of the loop as well. I read the books, and I have watched some of the movies.
I’m embarassed to say I didn’t realize there were conventions…I have been to a Star Trek convention, though — it was a total blast! I’d love to hear about Prophecy from those who attend!
